Day 07

Body

Find movement you really and truly enjoy. There are so many ways to move your body. It doesn’t matter what you do, but if you find something you really enjoy, every part of your being will thank you for it, and you will be more likely to fit it into your schedule. Start experimenting: dance, yoga, zumba, rock climb, pilates, hiking, hula-hooping, bike, rollerblade, ice-skate, walk, trampoline jumping, play tag, martial arts…Use this experiment to get to know yourself, to learn something new, to grow…Make it a point to try a new form of movement within the next week. If “exercise” has a bad connotation for you, drop it, just go play!

Mind and Soul

I think creativity benefits, feeds, and links the mind and soul. Create. It can be an outlet for emotions, enhances sense of self, and is linked to positivity. When we are creating we can experience expanded sense of time, self-awareness and expression. We can experience freedom, we can get in touch with ourselves, we can let go of stress, we can be present. In order for our brain to create new cells it has to be used often. Situations that call for creativity forces us to think. Thinking stimulates neural activity which in turn enhances brain power. The more you create the more you will think creatively, with practice it comes easily. There is no right or wrong way to create.

One of my favorite quotes is by Kurt Vonnegut: “The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”  It’s powerful…

Give it a try today. Let go of your excuses. Everyone is creative, you can create something…Write, cook, sing, draw, color, scrapbook, knit, make ornaments or jewelry or body products, play a musical instrument… It doesn’t matter. Create something. It will reward you.
